Local Gunshow Coming Up

It happens once a year in my city and this would be my first time going. I need some accessories for my new SKS. I may even pick up another one for the right price. Most importantly I need good surplus ammo and plenty of AK clips. I have expended nearly everything I have, as far as savings, on pm's, food preps, and other essential items. I feel now is the time to go into hyper-preparation mode. I am very good with credit cards and have a very excellent credit rating building up. I never carry a balance, although I am wondering if the current environment is so dire that I need to pull the goalie.

Do you think things could change so drastically/quickly in the next month or two that I need to start putting ammo/mags/firearms on credit cards. I know many don't do that anyway for tracking purposes but I always ask myself this question. Would I be willing to pay 15% interest on this now and be paying it off for a couple of months or will I be kicking myself because I was a minute too late in the SHTF/AWB scenario?

What are your thoughts as far as a newcomer getting a firearm? Is it better to be absolutely fully prepared ASAP or to slowly accumulate your defenses over a fair amount of time. In all likelihood I will have a couple of hundred bucks to spend at the gun show. If they do accept credit cards is it a good idea to get as much surplus ammo NOW or slowly accumulate it online over the next few months. If I get it NOW I pay a little more in the long run and have peace of mind. If I wait a few months to build up cash for bulk ammo/mags then I may be regretting it later. I would hate to have a new rifle and not enough ammo/mags later.

I guess this is taking in to account that some booths take credit cards at gun shows. I'm not sure how that works since I've never been to one.

My advice on the CC issue, never carry a balance. Use the card, but make it work for you, not the reverse. My first CC, back over 30 years ago, had a $500 dollar limit. Times got tough and I maxed it out, took me a while to bring it under control. Never again did I ever charge more than what I knew I could pay off that month.

As for firearms, it's easier to ask forgiveness than is to get permission. Last week I visited a pawn shop to see what all people found they could live without, place had 3 times the number of guns it usually does. If you've got some basics, just fortify those as you can afford it. If you have to pawn it off, you'll loose. (sorry)

I actually did that summer of last year. I kept getting the 0% interest for a year offers in the mail and I knew that if McCain wasn't elected we'd see a firearms dash, so I picked up a .308 MBR when you could still walk into the gun shop and buy one off the shelf along with a couple pistols. Currently though I would not do it again. Prices are too high and if they come down at all you'll be kicking yourself in the ass when you open that bill every month, especially if you're paying interest on it which I wasn't.

On the flip side though if prices continue to go up or guns become (more) unavailable I suppose we'll all be kicking ourselves for not picking up that next gun or stack of ammo we wanted.

Any Legislation will take some time and give you some notice on the actual legislation.

In my opinion Nothing will happen prior to Inauguration...and i think after Obama gets in his first priority will be Economic...so i think you have some time

The current rush is based on the EXPECTATIONS of prohibitive legislation so pricing and scarcity i think will continue

I personally dont see it to be a good idea to pay intrest on speculative purchases such as this...but i do think getting some stock as soon as you can raise cash would be a smart thing.

Just my humble opinions

At the present time, I think the worst place to buy a SKS, AK or AR would be a gunshow. Lots of foot traffic from scared people that may not know what a rifle is worth, are willing to pay outrageous prices. Right now, you should look at as many different online suppliers as possible, looking at one that does FFL transfers to local dealers.

Good outlook, this is a very reasonable approach
